Molly had a visitor this weekend and is now adoption pending! Nurse mare fillies Chrome and Scarlet also went to their new homes this weekend! Thank goodness! We are so happy for these horses to start their new lives with their forever families!
Tack N Togs Extreme Cowboy Race and Equine Expo
Thanks to Tack N Togs, we had a display and stalls in the sale aisle at this great event! We brought our mini ambassadors (literally!) Kiwi and Machoman, and Molly, a great green broke quarter horse mare. We hope to get more pictures up from this event later!
Left to right, we have Machoman modeling a SHARE t-shirt, which you can have too!
Molly in her stall at Gordyville–for any horse this is an intense experience. A strange stall, strange horses, and strange noises. Molly experienced LOUD music, LOUD announcers, and VERY LOUD cowboy mounted shooting demonstrations! She rode in all the arenas at Gordyville with an audience on the bleachers and never lost her mind, and ate and drank well the whole weekend. Let’s remember she started out this summer NOT broke and had a nice summer trail riding, so this was an extreme first for her and she did great!
Kiwi and Machoman resting in their stall. Yup, they aren’t really bothered by much either!
Tractor Supply Pet Fair
We had a great day at the Tractor Supply Company in Danville, IL on Saturday. Through Petfinder.com, where we list all our adoptable horses, we found out they were having a pet extravaganza day. They were so accommodating and had a huge round pen set up for us with a stock tank full of water for us.
We set up our booth and got the horses comfortable in the round pen.
Kiwi & MachoMan did their usual trick of bringing the people in to come visit with us.
We forgot to bring some chairs so Molly (the bay quarter horse) and Daisy (the paint) substituted in a pinch.
Daisy is “green broke” which means she really has not had that much riding experience and only knows the basics. Molly was with a great foster home this summer who took her out on trails and got her accepting a saddle, rider, etc. She needs some work on steering but has a decent stop and back-up. But both of these horses had no problems with our silly volunteers hopping on them bareback and steering them around with just a halter at the side of a store parking lot. That’s really saying something for these horses. While we don’t ever recommend green horses for beginners, both of these mares have nice calm personalities that will really make them SUPER horses for just about anyone on down the road.
We got some donations, sold some T-shirts, and talked to several people who were interested in adopting each horse, as well as some potential volunteers. Thanks so much to Tractor Supply for having us (and inviting us back!). You can check out the rest of the pics from our fun Saturday below.
Molly’s first trail ride!
From Molly & Honor’s foster home: “Molly did great on the trails for her first time. Molly is beginning to understand left/right and is fine with it on the trails, but still needs more work.”
By the way–what a great foster home to work with these horses and send us these updates. THANK YOU!
Molly update
Molly is staying with a foster home who is helping SHARE out by getting her going under saddle. We can’t thank this foster home enough for taking Molly & Honor and helping us out with them! If you’re interested in becoming a foster, email sharehorses@gmail.com. Meanwhile, here’s an update on Molly from her foster home:
Molly is started under saddle (understands stop/go, but doesn’t understand left/right yet), loads, lunges both ways, stands for hooves, ties well, patient for grain, easy to catch, doesn’t spook at vehicles, very people friendly however, is aggressive towards other horses and dogs. Molly needs a rider with experience.
